How the tools work
Each calculator runs in your browser; nothing is sent until you ask for the PDF report. The shaping estimator computes stroke rate, passes and generating feed from your pitch, tooth count, face width, material and cutter grade for a CNC gear shaper. The hobbing estimator times each cutting pass from its own travel (face width plus approach and overrun), feed and hob speed, then adds rapid, radial infeed, synchronization, hob shift and dwell; cutting speed comes from CTI-USA's gear-materials matrix (37 work materials × 9 hob steels) for a CNC or conventional hobber. The tool steel and coating selector recommends an HSS or PM-HSS grade (M2, M35, ASP or S-series) and a PVD coating (TiN, TiCN, TiAlN or AlCrN) from your workpiece material, hardness, volume, coolant and speed goal; our engineers confirm the final grade and coating, including Altensa for high-productivity hobbing.
